This painting is of a coastal forest on the southern end of Vancouver Island in Canada. The trees are twisted and battered by winter storms and under the grey skies the rocks and mosses glow bright and colourful.
David Ballantyne lives in Courtenay on Vancouver Island, Canada. He began a serious interest in drawing and photography while still in grade school. He began painting about twenty years ago. Largely self-taught he has also attended workshops from many talented instructors in Canada, the UK, USA, and France.
His artwork has been exhibited in galleries in Canada, the United States, Switzerland, and the UK. He has also received arts grants from the Canada Council for the Arts and the Alberta Foundation for the Arts.
Working in various media and in a realist manner he explores urban and natural landscape.
