Finding a piece which said ‘Strictly’ started this. I am a fan of the program, so I had to continue. I found things which gave rhythm, colour, fire, star quality etc. Everything but sequins and it’s Fabulous!
More than 20 years ago I chose to use only found man-made materials in my artwork. In other words, rubbish which I found on beaches. I was making a very obvious environmentalist statement by foregrounding the material in this way. My pictures reflect the conflicted nature of our civilisation, on the one hand loving TV nature programs etc and on the other accepting (however tacitly) the world with rubbish polluting everywhere. My pictures are full of strong colour and imagery and reflect the vortex of modern times, our heedless rush to environmental degradation.
