Using the architectural spaces of Cornerstone Arts Centre, Didcot, the restorative effects of materiality and colour are explored as fluorescent Perspex, shadow shapes, and printed patterns respond to light to form an array of colourful, uplifting light interactions.
My practice evolves from my interactions with monumental, concrete buildings. The formation and behaviour of shadows cast within these architectural environments fascinates me. With their ephemerality echoing our own transitory existence, I am particularly interested in the sensory experiences they evoke and how we project our own meanings and feelings onto these changeable spaces.
Capturing shadow shapes, I use them as a set of graphic motifs, which are layered into abstract compositions or sculptures reflecting the temporality and movement of shadows. Each piece serves as a record of atmosphere, concealing and revealing colour and materiality of place.
