The Wonders of Pembrokeshire’s Protected Seas

‘The Wonders of Pembrokeshire’s Protected Seas’ is a stunning new exhibition by two local awarded photographers Mike Crutchley and Dr Lou Luddington at the Waterfront Gallery, Milford Waterfront. This collaborative collection celebrates fascinating Pembrokeshire marine life, taking you on a journey beyond the scale of the human eye to a microscopic view of life beneath the waves.

The exhibition runs from 1st-3rd May 2024 and will be opened by Port of Milford Haven Chief Executive Officer, Tom Sawyer at 4pm on Friday 1st March.

Michael Crutchley, previously exhibited at Guernsey Museum, is a Haverfordwest-based photographer of microscopic organisms and plankton that has achieved numerous international photography awards. He has been harvesting plankton samples from the sea around Pembrokeshire for decades, especially St Brides Bay, Dale and the Milford Haven waterways. His magnified images of our marine wildlife and will bring a fresh perspective to our local natural world and highlight its importance to the global marine environment.

Dr Lou Luddington, is a Roch-based marine biologist, photographer and author with an impressive catalogue of published works of her images of marine life around Pembrokeshire and globally. This will be the first time both artists have exhibited their vision of the ocean’s marvellous diversity together.

The importance of the exhibition to the scientific and environmental education of our school children and community has been recognised with the fantastic support received from sponsors including Welsh Government, Pembrokeshire Marine Special Area Conservation, Port of Milford Haven and South Hook LNG.

David Randell, Director and Curator of the Waterfront Gallery noted ‘Engaging our school children and the next generation with the rich diversity of life around us in Pembrokeshire has been recognised by each of these important contributors’.

The exhibition is open to school visits. All works are for sale.
