FINE ART Tim Arthur

Tim was born in Devon in 1950. He trained as a teacher at the Central School of Speech and Drama in London, specialising in set design and scenery construction.

He was commissioned to create the “Spanish feel” at Picton Castle’s Courtyard Restaurant in Haverfordwest, and with his paintings has developed an eye for the off-beat and quirky locations in Pembrokeshire in particular the boat-yards and estuary creeks neglected by holiday guide books. His other passion is to paint the volcanic landscape of Lanzarote – and the spectacular spoon-shaped prows of Spanish Atlantic Trawlers!

It was during his time at college that he began to paint the unlovely and forgotten places of Camden in North West London.

He found a ready market for his paintings amongst tutors and fellow students and exploited the “Swinging London” scene, selling his lurid hand-painted posters to American tourists from the railings at Hyde Park. After leaving college in 1971 he taught Art at a boarding school in East Devon before moving to Pembrokeshire. He was Youth Tutor at the Milford Haven Further Education Centre for some years before setting up a successful Pembrokeshire holiday cottage business. Tim has recently rediscovered his interest in painting and design.
