Victoria General – Awaiting her return

Several years ago I was fortunate enough to visit Wales for a family wedding. I was able to spend some time in the Wye Valley area, and spent many hours walking and taking in the beautiful landscape. The painting is a depiction of one of the rather rustic, rural cottages I came across, seemingly tucked in behind the many little hills. The title ‘Awaiting her return’ refers to a family member (I pictured a daughter, but of course it could be anyone!) who has gone to fetch something, with both the elderly gent and his dog waiting for her return. While the man looks slightly anxious, the dog strikes me as quite assured.
